20261028-1730-air-hub-mini-esp32-c5-board Air Hub Mini: regenerate the board with the ESP32-C5-WROOM-1

  • status: completed
  • priority: P1
  • owner: worker/session-ybo-46
  • createdAt: 2026-10-28 17:30

On 2026-10-28 the owner asked to move the Mini to the ESP32-C5-WROOM-1-N8 ("我们把mini修改为 ESP32-C5-WROOM-1-N8").

There is no plain N8 order code. The standard codes are N4, N4R2, N8R2, N16R2, N8R8, N16R8 and N32R8. The board first used the N8R2. The same day the owner chose the ESP32-C5-WROOM-1-N8R8 ("用N8R8"): 8 MB flash and 8 MB quad-SPI PSRAM, with the same footprint and pins. Its PSRAM takes pin 19 (IO15), which the Mini does not use.

Scope of this task:

  • Hardware: the schematic, footprint, PCB, renders and handover package in /srv/ybo/switch/air-hub-mini are regenerated.
  • Docs: only the Mini sections of the reference board page.
  • Not in scope: task 20261028-1709 (another session) updates the spec, design appendix, guide, certification evaluation and the carrier side. The two sessions agreed this split.

New pin map:

Function Pins
MG24 UART1 IO0, IO1
MG24 RTS / CTS IO3 / IO10
MG24 reset / boot IO23 / IO24
CAN IO4, IO5
USB IO13, IO14
PAIR IO7
RGB LED red / green / blue IO6 / IO8 / IO9
Spare (strapping pins, left open) IO2, IO25–IO28

Acceptance criteria:

  1. Board checks: ERC with no errors, DRC 0 (unconnected, errors, parity), EMC 0 errors.
  2. Handover package: the pin map CSV, datasheets, renders and README describe the C5.
  3. Reference board page: §2.4, the §5.4 controller row, §6.1, the Mini line in §7, §7.4 and the §8 Mini row are updated.
  4. Quality gate: bun run docs:lint && bun run docs:build && git diff --check passes.

Moving the Air Hub Mini board to the ESP32-C5-WROOM-1

  • blocks: (none)
  • related: 20261028-1709-air-hub-esp32-c5-module

Results (2026-10-28):

  • Board: DRC 0 unconnected, 0 errors, 0 parity. Warnings: 3 library-mismatch and 3 silkscreen-edge.
  • EMC: 14 findings, 0 errors, 8 warnings. The new warning is GP-001: one CANH segment has 95 % reference-plane coverage, from this routing run.
  • Cost:
    • Per-board parts at 100 pcs: $19.55, up from $18.22.
    • §6.1: electronics $17.0, landed unit $22.7–28.0.
    • The module price ($4.5, DigiKey @650) is an estimate. LCSC does not list the part.
  • Doc version: reference board R1.19 (N8R2), then R1.21 (N8R8).
  • N8R8 follow-up outside the agreed split: task 20261028-1709 was already completed. This task therefore also updated the Mini order code, PSRAM size and cost in the spec (R1.23), design appendix (R1.18), guide (R1.14), certification evaluation, product-plan, open-questions and wireless SoC catalog.
  • Open:
    • The module needs a quote.
    • The 5 GHz antenna keepout still has to be reviewed against Espressif's module reference layout.
    • The block diagrams in the handover package (diagrams/mini-block, power-tree-mini) were already stale at rev C before this task, and they still are.
