20261025-0030-air-hub-mini-controller-alternatives Air Hub Mini: record controller alternatives (ESP32-C5, ESP32-S31)

  • status: completed
  • priority: P3
  • owner: worker/session-ybo-46

On 2026-10-25 the owner asked whether the Mini should use the ESP32-S31-WROOM-3-N16R16V or the ESP32-C5 instead of the ESP32-C6-WROOM-1-N8, and asked for the evaluation to be recorded as alternatives ("写入备选方案里面"). This task changes documentation only; the board is unchanged.

  • ESP32-C5-WROOM-1: a worthwhile upgrade.
    • Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 keeps the uplink off 2.4 GHz.
    • It has a CAN FD controller.
    • The datasheet is a mass-production release.
    • Costs: a new footprint and pin map, and a 2 mm longer module. Certification adds 5 GHz (EN 301 893), and the module price is still to be quoted.
    • It still has a single radio, so the EFR32MG24 module stays.
  • ESP32-S31-WROOM-3-N16R16V: not for the Mini.
    • The datasheets are pre-release.
    • Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only.
    • The compute, memory and Gigabit Ethernet are not needed on the Mini.
    • It is a later candidate for the Linux carrier.

Acceptance criteria:

  1. Docs: design appendix §3.1 lists both alternatives with their benefits, costs and conclusion. The current choice stays the ESP32-C6-WROOM-1-N8.
  2. Quality gate: bun run docs:lint && bun run docs:build && git diff --check passes.

Recording the Air Hub Mini controller alternatives

  • Open: whether to switch the Mini to the ESP32-C5 is the owner's decision. The switch would be a separate task covering the footprint, pin map, layout, certification scope and cost.
